Shopping local is more important than ever this year, and some small businesses believe that this holiday will make or break their futures. Checking off your list by supporting your favorite shops and boutiques is a great option, but crafting your own unique gifts for your loved ones is a fun way to get into the holiday spirit. Quarantine has brought out our DIY-side in many of us, so things like bread making kits or learn how to sew books have become even more popular as we delve into our creativity. Both the AR Workshop and The Happy Hour Homemaker in downtown Meridian provide spaces and creative resources for community members to tap into their imagination.
The AR Workshop is typically a gathering place where friends and family can come together and create personalized wood or canvas projects, but has had to shift this year as COVID-19 continues to linger. Though they celebrated their first year anniversary with hot cocoa, cookies, treats and ornament making for guests on the night of the Winter Lights Parade, they have had to cancel their celebration this year. You can still expect the usual line up of wood, canvas and specialty workshops, but they’ve decided to run at 30% capacity and only open workshops to 10 guests to ensure social distancing. Additionally, keep a lookout for great Black Friday specials and be sure to check out the storefront, as they compete in the Meridian Downtown Christmas Decorating contest. To register for a class, or learn more check out the AR Workshop website.
The Happy Hour Homemaker offers custom wood sign classes, where you can create your own signs like a pro. They love bringing friends together for fun parties, and are trying to overcome COVID as best as they can while still keeping guests safe. Currently parties are limited to 9 and under to stay in compliance with the Stage 2 order. For those who just want to bring the fun home, the Happy Hour Homemaker is also offering Make and Take kits this season. Check out their website to stay up to date on events or seasonal offerings.
